About SLC

We are a non-profit making government-owned organisation that delivers trusted, transparent, flexible and accessible student finance services across the UK.

Our 9.7 million customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we administer a loan book valued at over £260.8 billion.

How we deliver student finance varies slightly across the UK but, essentially, we manage the full end-to-end apply, assess, pay and repay process. We pay Maintenance Loans, Grants and Bursaries to students and Tuition Fees to higher education providers on their behalf.

We’re on a journey to becoming a simpler, modern, digital organisation, continually seeking to transform and raise the bar for our customers, our colleagues and stakeholders.

Our new Glasgow site has followed the UK Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Building – Performance Levels guidelines and will secure a BREEAM Excellent certification.

We have a unique status within the UK as a public sector organisation that is owned by the UK Government and the devolved administrations of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
