Sean’s story

Sean Stephenson joined SLC in 2017 and is now a Senior Manager in Business Intelligence. He completed a Graduate Apprenticeship in Data Science from Robert Gordon University.

He said: “I was self-taught with respect to data and analytics, but I wanted to fill the gaps in my knowledge. SLC offered me this fantastic opportunity to do a Degree Apprenticeship and have really supported me throughout my studies.

“Completing an apprenticeship was a unique experience, enabling me to not only study and understand the theory provided by the university, but then experience the reality of implementing the practices within the work environment, understanding what works or adjusting the process to suit.

“Ultimately, it’s widened my understanding and skills which I can now use to help develop new techniques within SLC. I also hope to be able to support other colleagues through their own career development in the organisation, sharing my own experience of learning and working at the same time.”
