Susan’s story

At SLC, it’s important that our people have flexibility in their role. Susan Butcher is a Commercial Specialist and has worked with us since 2007 when she joined our Correspondence Team, in Hillington. After a year she moved into the Commercial Team, in Glasgow’s Bothwell Street office, and her career has continued to progress.

In 2015, Susan married her partner, who is in the British Army, and due to the nature of his work the family needed to relocate to North Yorkshire. She wanted to stay with SLC and was able to transfer her role to our Darlington office, ensuring she could continue her career with us.

One year later, she applied for a role as a Commercial Officer and has most recently been promoted to Commercial Specialist.

Susan said: “My SLC career has literally been a journey. I feel lucky that thanks to the flexibility SLC offers, I have been able to continue to progress as part of the Commercial Team while overcoming the logistical challenges of being part of a military family.”

She added: “I came to SLC straight from college unsure of what I wanted to do. I have been able to take advantage of all the opportunities the organisation offered me, and I really enjoy what I do. I would recommend SLC to anyone who is looking for a rewarding career where they can realise their potential.”
