Jamie’s Story

Jamie Law joined SLC in 2011 as a Student Finance Officer within the Customer Operations Directorate. Since then, he has progressed his career with the organisation, holding positions such as Team Manager, Business Change Lead and Operations Manager. Jamie is currently Senior Manager of the Verification Operations department.

Alongside his day job, Jamie is currently studying for a BA (Hons) degree in Business Management at Glasgow Caledonian University.

He said: “My course has helped me develop an academic understanding of various aspects of my role including financial management, risk, project management, human resources, leadership, and strategic planning.

“This, combined with my 13 years of managerial experience, means I feel better equipped to make informed decisions, ask the right questions, develop effective strategies, manage resources, and lead large and diverse teams effectively.

“The support I have received from SLC has been fantastic. My manager has encouraged me every step of the way and I have had fantastic mentors who have kept me progressing in the right direction.”

He added: “We’re lucky to work for an organisation that invests so much in personal and professional development. The extra work and time commitment is not easy, but there are so many great people at SLC who are very supportive.”
