Personal Development Conversation
This is a 30-minute, one-to-one structured discussion with an assessor.
What type of discussion is it?
We aim to create a natural conversation where you feel comfortable expressing your true self. This helps us gain a genuine understanding of who you are, how you handle situations, and your future potential.
The conversation includes:
- forward-looking questions to identify your talents and what energises you
- behavioural questions to explore how you have acted in past situations
- personal examples where you can draw on experiences from volunteering, work, education, or hobbies
- self-reflection, so we can hear about your strengths, your areas for development, and what interests you about the Fast Stream
What we’re looking for
We assess your potential across 3 dimensions: Relate, Adapt, and Strive.
Relate: Your self-awareness and interpersonal skills.
We look at how you use your insight to work effectively with others and how you communicate your own ideas clearly and authentically.
This dimension is about your understanding of your own strengths and your impact on a team.
Adapt: Your flexibility and learning agility.
We look at how you stay flexible when situations change and how you adapt your approach when you receive feedback.
This dimension is about how quickly you acquire and apply new knowledge.
Strive: Your drive and values.
We look at your resilience, at how you take a positive approach to overcoming challenges and at what you learn from setbacks.
This dimension is about how you stay motivated, positive and focused on your goals.
How to prepare
You do not need to memorise answers. This conversation is about you, and so the best preparation is self-reflection. You can draw on examples from work, education, volunteering, hobbies, or home life.
To prepare, we advise that you:
1. Identify your strengths
Think about activities that energise you, things you do regularly, enjoy, and do well.
2. Know your motivators
Think about what drives you and your future career goals. Consider how the Fast Stream fits into that journey.
3. Reflect on your growth
Be ready to discuss your strengths, blind spots, and areas for development. When you think about a time things did not go to plan, focus on what you learned. What did you discover about yourself, and how did you change your approach for the next time?
4. Understand your “Fast Stream Fit”
Think about why you want to join and how your strengths align with the Fast Stream. You need to show that your goals and values are a good match.
Tips for the day
- You donโt need to focus on professional work or education. Experiences from hobbies, volunteering, or home life are just as valuable.
- If you are not sure about something, it’s ok to say so.
- The conversation is a chance for us to learn more about you as a person and to hear your honest thoughts and reactions.
