What we do at GDS

GOV.UK is the online home of government information and services. GOV.UK is an integral part of our national infrastructure, essential to living, studying and working in the UK.

Millions of people visit daily for everything from registering a death to paying their taxes. We want to make it quicker and easier for users to access information and services, helping them to receive the full support that they are entitled to.

A new universal login that is already making public services easier to access online for more than 1.5 million people.

The system allows users to have just one account, one username, one password and one identity check to use Government services such as signing a mortgage deed or requesting a DBS check, without having to repeatedly provide their information.

These are a common core infrastructure of shared digital systems, technology and processes on which it’s easy to build brilliant, user-centric government services.

Examples include GOV.UK Pay and GOV.UK Notify.
