If I am successful, when will I start?
If you are successful, your start date will depend on the specific Fast Stream scheme you’ve applied to. All schemes begin in September or October the year after you apply, on either 7 September or 28 September 2026.
Can I choose which department and location I work in?
Fast streamers cannot choose their department or their specific role. However, we endeavour to meet location preferences wherever possible. On occasion, some individuals may need to move location subject to the demands of the departments we work with and/or business need. The Fast Stream is designed to develop leaders for the whole Civil Service. You might be surprised by the variety of departments that can cater to your interests and provide excellent opportunities for your development.

Travel to other (non-work) locations:
There may be occasions where you will need to travel to other locations to attend mandatory in-person training, workshops or meetings. We will always give you plenty of notice so you can make arrangements to any existing commitments, and we will take into account any existing workplace adjustments. Reasonable travel, including short overnight stays are expected as part of the programme.
What is the onboarding process?
If you’re successful you will receive a welcome email and begin the onboarding process. This includes pre-employment and security checks, access to further information about the fast stream and the scheme you will be joining, and opportunities to ask any questions you may have.
