We opened the doors to our Manchester headquarters in February 2022 and are now home to a rapidly growing cohort of DCMS colleagues. Manchester was a clear choice when it came to selecting a second city for a HQ; the city has many links to our Arms Lengths Bodies and sectors – cultural, sporting, media and a thriving digital economy. Our modern and lively office is located in the centre of Manchester and is a short walk from Market Street and St Peter’s Square tram stops. The office has fantastic shared facilities such as an independent Cafe, yoga studio, cinema room, auditorium and wellness space. On DCMS floors 3 and 4, you will find plenty of opportunities for collaboration and can get involved with many of our social groups and networks.

Manchester is an amazing city and our DCMS HQ is attracting a talented pool of individuals eager to work in such an energetic and dynamic place. “It has a fantastic food and drink scene that is very eclectic. It also has great theatres and nightlife” says Darryl from the Recruitment Team.
Policy Advisor, Laura Coleman, enjoys the diversity of Manchester; “everything is in walking distance – the city but also how close you are to the countryside – the peak district is 40 minutes away by car, the lake district is 1.5 hours away by train, or even north of bury you have the Lancashire valley!”. Fellow policy advisor Rosie Lampard agrees that that the city offers “the best of all worlds! Eclectic city life and you’re only ever 30 minutes away from stunning hikes in the hills in every direction.” Manchester is the “true northern hub” Darryl emphasises.
One of the best things about working in our northern HQ is the ease of travel. Policy Assistant, Rachael enjoys her morning commutes to office via the tram, preferring it to an ‘underground’ alternative. For Recruitment Coordinator Rhianna, getting to work is ‘simple’.
DCMS holds responsibility for culture and sport in England so it makes sense that Ollie, Policy Advisor, believes “there is no better place to live if you’re interested in sport – particularly football”. Aside from the obvious two clubs that reside in the city, Recruitment Coordinator Rhianna touches on the fun of supporting her local team stating “it’s a great afternoon outing if you’re fancying some fresh air and socialising”. Natasha, our Inclusive Culture Lead, finds the Manchester sports scene great for families and especially enjoys watching Cricket at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
Ollie continues that the music community in Manchester is “unrivalled”. The city is home to some of the countries best artists and music venues. Gregory, our Strategic Case Lead, says music is his favourite thing about Manchester.
Most importantly, Manchester is a welcoming and accepting city that is rapidly growing but “retaining its soul” says Gregory. Stacy, Careers Manager, draws to a close by adding “I enjoy the freedom to be myself and the celebration of diversity.”
