Life at SLC

Life at SLC

People are at the heart of everything we do at SLC, and we aim to support our customers and colleagues to thrive.

When you join SLC, you will have access to structured career pathways with lots of opportunities to learn and develop, so your application is just the first step of your journey with us.

As an organisation, celebrating success is important and we like to recognise a job well done. We have our Performance Development process, which is designed to ensure you feel valued, recognised and motivated to do a great job, as well as identifying opportunities to grow your career with us. You can also get involved in our People Star Awards, which encourages colleagues to recognise the achievements of their peers.

We promote an inclusive culture where everyone can be themselves and feel included, valued and respected. We work closely with external organisations, such as Employers for Carers and Henpicked, to support our colleagues and our ambition to be a great place to work.

We have a dedicated colleague network framework with several colleague networks, which provide a safe space for colleagues, empowering individuals to be themselves, have their voice heard, and effectively inform decision making to create a more inclusive workplace.

SLC colleagues are given a day’s paid annual leave to volunteer within the local community.

The Customer Operations Academy team spent a day building a new child friendly viewing platform at the Cocker Beck Nature Reserve in Darlington.

Clare Moore, Academy Team Leader said: “This was a great opportunity to improve the local area and ensure that the park is well maintained and safe for people to enjoy. It was great to spend some time with my team and feel like we were making a difference.”

SLC People Star Awards 2024

“I joined Arcus in 2022, when the network said they were looking for more members ahead of the Pride celebrations.

Since joining I have proudly marched in four pride events for SLC, across Glasgow and Darlington, supported the implementation of our refreshed EDI strategy as co-chair of Arcus, and regularly met with network members to discuss how we can support LGBTQ+ colleagues.

It’s incredibly important that colleagues are able to bring their full selves to work and feel safe to do so.”

Chair of Arcus, SLC’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning and non-binary (LGBTQ+) colleague network
