About the Rural
Payments Agency

We are the main delivery body for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), supporting the rural economy by helping agricultural and rural communities create a better place to live.

We provide a wide range of grants and services to farmers, traders and landowners, funding over £2 billion a year to support environmental outcomes. We also manage over 40 schemes to help ensure we have a healthy rural economy and strong rural communities.

We employ around 2,600 staff; many of whom live in the communities we serve.
