Supportive
Culture

Our Profession is a community of more than 7000 property experts working in every property discipline, across every Government Department and agency.

Members of our Profession are part of a network, with a shared culture of learning and support.

We are diverse – and becoming ever more so – and we work in a welcoming, inclusive culture.

A community of peers

Being part of the Government Property Profession offers networking opportunities, learning and development, and exciting career pathways. Members of our community benefit from support, advice, guidance and networks from peers across Government.

The online Government Property Community is a one-stop shop for property professionals to learn, connect and get informed. It hosts news, discussions, blogs, comment, events, and surveys. The portal helps people connect, come together, and share their stories, concerns, and ideas.

“I’m quite a severe dyslexic and throughout my career in the civil service it has been incredibly empowering to acknowledge my disability.”

A diverse and representative profession

We’re committed to creating a diverse property profession, which is representative of the communities we serve. Among many programmes which are in place to help us get there is the Property Shadow Board, which brings together a group of emerging leaders from varied backgrounds, to offer different perspectives to leadership decisions.

Transforming our workforce

Our profession is a key part of the Places for Growth Programme which – between now and 2030 – will relocate more than 20,000 Civil Service roles out of London and into regions throughout the UK. More than half of this target has already been surpassed. On top of that, we have committed to relocating at least half of all Senior Civil Roles out of London over the same time period.

This programme is about making sure the Civil Service is representative of the UK, and encouraging diversity of thought, background, and experience in the policy-making and public service delivery processes.
