Working at
HM Land Registry

A great place to work

HM Land Registry is a vibrant place to work with sport and social events and a variety of clubs. We offer flexible working to help you achieve a work-life balance that works for you and us. You could be protecting property ownership by making updates to the Land Register, or working in our digital, data and technology teams, designing the property market of the future.

Working at HM Land Registry

“At HM Land Registry we are passionate about developing our skills, building our capacity, modernising and reshaping the organisation and empowering our expert people. Ongoing training is available to all colleagues, incorporating technical training, digital skills training and personal development. Technical e-learning is provided for our expert caseworkers, which helps them process applications faster and more accurately.”

Lynn Narramore

Head of Organisation and Employee Development

Hybrid working

Most roles at HM Land Registry are hybrid, with time split between working from one of our 14 offices for at least 60% of your time and working remotely. Colleagues are encouraged to think about the best approach for their individual role, which should be discussed with their line manager.

We are keen to embrace the added flexibility that this offers to our people whilst allowing colleagues to share knowledge, connect with each other as they work, and contribute to our outstanding culture.

Work, your way

We understand the ways people work best are personal and varied. Collaboration, individual work, ideas sessions, and coffee-break chats are all equally important at HM Land Registry. We have designed our offices and workspaces to enable all the diverse types of work that contribute to the exceptional performance of our teams.

You can take your work from a dual monitor desk to a collaborative space to technology enabled meeting spaces – wherever you need to go to do your best work in a way that suits your style.

Your development

Almost every role within HM Land Registry sits within a specialist area that is aligned to a Civil Service Profession. These professions offer unique opportunities for individuals to engage with and develop alongside colleagues within our organisation and across the whole of government. Professions offer networking opportunities, career routes, training and development programmes – and a real sense of belonging. So, whether your goal is to gain deeper expertise or to try something entirely new, there is a path and a place for you.

LR Leisure

LR Leisure is HM Land Registry’s Sports and Social club and organises a wide variety of sporting and social events for staff all year round. LR Leisure is run by staff members who give up their time on a voluntary basis to enable opportunities for people to connect with each other and enjoy taking part in an event or activity with their colleagues at both local and national level.

LR Leisure encourages and arranges participation in Civil Service Sports competitions that allow members to test their skills against other Civil Service departments in a fun, friendly, and enjoyable way. Our members have previously taken trophies in golf, football, squash, hockey, swimming, and even photography.

In addition to competitive events, LR Leisure encourages staff members to connect in an informal setting, with quiz nights, board-game evenings, and book clubs (among others) regularly held in and around our local offices.

Gold Wellbeing Award from MIND

We’re pleased to have been the only government department to achieve a gold wellbeing award in the Mind Workplace Wellbeing Awards 2022/23. Our gold ranking signifies the commitment and effort HM Land Registry has shown in prioritising employee wellbeing.
