Competitive Pay reward

Competitive Pay Reward

  • GCO pay bands are higher than civil service equivalent bands, with the GCO range from £72,000 – £228,000
  • Annual Pay Award process by which GCO implement changes to pay bands, increases to consolidated base salary and non-consolidated payment. However,none are guaranteed.
  • Concord pension scheme, a defined contribution pension scheme, will see you pay 5% of your pensionable pay and GCO contribute 3%, meaning 8% in total is being paid to your pension.
  • Performance-related pay is available each year to eligible individuals, G7 & G6 up to 15% of consolidated base salary. SCS can earn up to 20%. This is a unique benefit within the Civil Service
  • GCO rewards and recognises employees for their commitment to the Civil Service in the form of a letter from the Government Chief Commercial Officer and a choice ofSpecial Leave or Retail Vouchers.

Work Life Balance

  • Annual Leave on GCO terms you are entitled to 25 days’ and 8 public holiday days and one privilege leave day for the King’s Official Birthday (pro-rata for part-time employees) and may have the option to purchase up to 5 further days.
  • GCO recognises you have priorities outside of work and you can request a range of working patterns to honour this including part-time, compressed hours, job sharing, part-year, annualised hours and flexi-time, which allows you to work your contractual hours more flexibly.
  • Hybrid working of 60% office attendance monthly is available to employees, allowing you to balance your work and life priorities to suit your lifestyle.
  • In certain circumstances, you can take time off in addition to annual leave, examples include public duties, volunteering, Disability Leave, Carer’s Leave or time off to deal with domestic emergencies.

  • The Cycle to work scheme, you can make up to 47% tax and national insurance savings on the cost of a bike and cycling accessories, by making monthly payments from your salary before you’re taxed.
  • You can claim reimbursement towards dental treatment during the policy year, up to the policy limit at your choice of dentist, from just £8.25 per month.

Health & Wellbeing

  • The GCO aims to reduce sickness absence by prevention and early intervention, and through a culture that actively promotes health and wellbeing. Further details on occupational sick pay policy can be provided.
  • Employee Assistance Programme is available to you which offers a range of services to help deal with challenges you may face in work or your personal life including The Helpline (available 24 hours a day, seven days a week), counselling and therapy.
  • You can claim for an eye test once every 12 months, up to a maximum cost of £30, and another test within a 12-month period if the Optician states that another is required. You can claim £50 towards glasses or contact lenses where the Optician states they are required for daily working. 
  • Flu Jab cost reimbursement is available to you, where you can claim up to a maximum of £20 this season.
