Our work
Our work is diverse โ we are responsible for the management and delivery of all the agencyโs soft and hard services, related projects and any related service supplier relationships. We are also home to DVLAโs physical security, health and safety, sustainability and business continuity teams. We are currently managing a significant piece of work to exit our 20-year Private Finance Initiative contract, which expires in 2025, and on to newly contracted service providers.
Our people
The DVLA Estates Management Group (EMG) is made up of around 60 colleagues who are part of the Government Property Function or the Government Security Profession. Many are accredited members of or have achieved professional memberships in their discipline, including:
- the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
- National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH)
- the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health
- the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment
- the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management
- the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management
- the Emergency Planning Society
- the Business Continuity Institute
- the Chartered Institution of Building Service Engineers

Our workplace
EMG is responsible for overseeing and managing the DVLA estate, which comprises around 12 buildings across three sites in Swansea and one satellite office in Birmingham.
It is home to a workforce of over 6,000 staff โ most based across our Swansea sites, with some working from home.
Our buildings house different working environments โ there are around 5,000 desk-based workstations, two large print facilities with machinery, large warehouse style storage areas, a call centre, a learning and development centre and staff restaurants.
