Every day is different: working in risk management at Ofqual

My typical day 

Each day brings different challenges. I train staff in risk management, help teams assess regulatory risks, and analyse issues that shape qualification policy decisions. I also help teams across Ofqual spot risks and provide solutions.

We’re a small team, and the work we do matters. I’m part of a team that’s united by a purpose to ensure that the work we do makes a difference to students and apprentices taking qualifications across England.  

How Ofqual has helped me grow 

I’ve built up my network with risk experts across government to learn new approaches in managing risk in different sectors. 

Ofqual has invested in my development through training in data analysis, cyber security and assessment theory. 

It’s great to see that Ofqual values and invests in its people and gives us opportunities to build our expertise.

You don’t need previous experience in risk management – but you do need interest. We want people who are curious, can analyse complex information and are eager to learn. 

Risk management is a specialist area, but we’ll teach you what you need to know. Your attitude and potential are more important than your experience.
