Life at Ofqual

Working at Ofqual: From Teaching to the Civil Service

Why I joined Ofqual

After four years of teaching, I joined Ofqual’s graduate scheme. I wanted to stay in education while moving into policy work.

My first role was in the Regulatory Compliance team. It was new territory for me, but in the few months I’ve been here I’ve learned how we check and investigate awarding organisations to ensure qualifications maintain high standards. It’s rewarding to know the projects I work on impact learners in England.

The support here has been excellent. My mentor, manager and colleagues help with everything from Excel problems to explaining acronyms. I work with experts from different backgrounds, which makes every day interesting.

I’ve been to team away days where I met inspiring education leaders and was able to network. One highlight was meeting Professor Becky Francis CBE, who leads the Curriculum and Assessment Review.

The hybrid working setup here helps me balance my work and home life. I can work from home some days and come to the office on others.

If you care about education, Ofqual is a great place to work. You get lots of training, supportive colleagues, and the chance to make a real difference to students’ lives.

So why not begin a new career with Ofqual and help make a difference in 2025. Look out for opportunities by following Ofqual on LinkedIn
