  • 00:07 [Catherine Wilday, Child Maintenance Group internal communications, Department for Work and Pensions] It's really exciting times with places for growth, we're now getting the opportunity to get those big jobs and more local. It doesn't matter now what your background was, it doesn't matter where you're from. You could be living in the West Midlands, you could be in Birmingham, you could be Dudley or Wolverhampton. You don't now need to make those choices that if you want to progress your career that you have to now move. You don't need to do that anymore.
  • 00:31 [Sharon Kooner, Senior Civil Service recruitment campaign manager, Cabinet Office] In particular for senior civil senior Civil Service roles, you know they’re such important roles where they deliver against the government's agenda and priorities. For them to be placed outside of Whitehall and see the policies that are being developed, seeing them being run and really understand what those policies are doing on the ground and understanding the local knowledge and seeing how it's being impacted, I think that's incredibly important.
  • 00:58 [Wayne Walsh, digital processing services team leader, Office for the Public Guardian] I think it's a good thing because not just one city has all the best jobs so to speak, and the other government departments around England will get a chance to benefit from having greater opportunities.
  • 01:15 [Elizabeth Ecart, project lead for service delivery, Senior Civil Service recruitment, Department for Work and Pensions] So for a lot of our candidates they come over on a values based move as they know that what they do really makes a difference and the job that they're moving into is going to be on the front line making a difference in real time to real people. I think that's a real draw for a lot of candidates. Having a diverse leadership group means that we're going to have opinions from a diverse range of people. Diversity of thought, diversity of experience is crucial to making those key decisions and making them well and making them on behalf of the most wide range of people possible.
  • 01:47 [Sharon] So I'm proud to be a civil servant because I get to be involved in delivering the government's priorities, programs, and really making a positive impact for the UK and the public.
  • 02:03 [Catherine] I love the well-being and inclusion agenda, I really do believe that the Civil Service is about everybody no matter your background. It doesn't matter about what school you went to, about your social mobility status, anything along those lines, I don't think it matters and I really want to champion that and ensure that we have opportunities for all.
  • 02:23 [Mandy McClusky, business unit head for Birmingham and Telford, HM Revenue and Customs] I've never met such a great bunch of people to work with I've met some fantastic lifelong friends in the Civil Service, perhaps people who I'd never have met, never have seen, never have interacted with previously. It's just opened my eyes and my mind to what's out there and again the opportunities now with our new regional centers that have opened are just phenomenal.
