Ashleigh’s story
Ashleigh McGunnigle, SLC Project Delivery Standards Manager, celebrated the completion of her Graduate Apprenticeship at Glasgow Caledonian University at the end of last year. Ashleigh, who joined SLC in 2014 as a Repayment Recoveries Advisor, built her career through roles including Team Manager before moving into the Project Management Office (PMO).
Along the way, she took advantage of every opportunity to develop her skills — completing her Credit Services Association Diploma and later achieving her PRINCE2 Foundation certificate as part of her progression within the PMO. Her commitment to continuous learning – from shadowing colleagues to undertaking formal training and proactively seeking development opportunities – has been central to her journey and contributed to her being promoted twice while studying for her BA (Hons) in Business Management.

Achieving her degree was a career highlight for Ashleigh. Throughout her studies, she applied her learning directly to her role – improving team and directorate-wide processes, introducing new ways of working and mentoring new team members and colleagues to support their development.
She said: “I think the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme will help shape my future at SLC by providing me with the confidence in my skills and knowledge. I am looking forward to seeing where it takes me.”
