On the Operational Delivery Fast Stream, you will receive an unparalleled range of experience making a real difference turning government policies, strategies, and plans into actions as you develop leadership and management skills in the largest profession in the Civil Service.
Operational Delivery roles exist at every grade within the Civil Service, including at the most senior levels and the Operational Delivery Fast Stream offers a clear career pathway for those with the desire to reach the very highest levels of the organisation.
You will gain experience and skills by working in various challenging Operational Delivery roles with the opportunity to work in different environments/ government departments – such as the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice, Department for Work and Pensions, HM Revenue and Customs, and the Home Office. The Operational Delivery Fast Stream programme is designed to grow our pipeline of high-performing operational leaders who oversee the vital services that meet citizens’ needs and make a difference in people’s lives. You will do this by leading through others to turn government policies, strategies and plans into real tangible outcomes.

As an Operational Delivery fast streamer, you will be fully supported to:
The Operational Delivery Fast Stream is a 3.5 year programme that sees you undertake a mixture of front-line postings and across multiple different roles.
Your first year is a 12 month placement in a government department, within an operational delivery role including up to 3 months of front-line experience in an operational environment. There will be some line management responsibilities within this year leading and managing a small operational team.
Year 2 consists of leading and managing a small/medium size team, and the opportunity to explore job shadowing opportunities to build knowledge and skills in other professions and areas of delivery.
Year 3 is a 12 month placement in an operational delivery role. There will be large scale management responsibilities included in this year’s placement, in a complex, highly critical and challenging role.
